Eating with Your Eyes
I saw an article the other day that made a lot of sense. It talked about how we often eat with our senses instead of eating because we are hungry. Then we don’t stop eating when our body tells us we are full; our senses can keep us eating more than we need. It reminds me of when I was a kid and Sunday morning breakfasts consisted of cornflakes with milk and sugar, plus a piece of toast with peanut butter. I can still taste it today just thinking about it. But it’s so much more than just the taste, it’s all the memories that surround it including how that routine was so comfortable and made me feel safe. I think it’s important to remember how our senses can contribute to the kinds of food and the amounts that we eat. Do you ever find yourself eating even when you’re not hungry?
