Green Tea and Prevention of Arterial Rupture
In recent years green tea has been gaining popularity, mainly because of its impressive health benefits. A number of research studies have suggested its role in the prevention of such conditions as cancer and cardiovascular disease. A new study from Kyoto University, and published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery, revealed that it could have a significant impact on the development of abdominal aortic aneurysm, a condition in which the main artery becomes overstretched and bloated. In a study with rats, it was shown that the polyphenols in green tea preserve the aortic thickness and elastin content of the arterial walls.
While more research is needed, including the use of human subjects and to determine dosages, this is a further indication of the positive benefits that including green tea in your diet can have on health. There is much we can learn from the Japanese, most of whom consume green tea daily.
