But what is metabolism, really, and how does it affect our bodies? I found a couple of good articles that help to understand our metabolism.  The first is from the University of California (Berkeley) Wellness website and provides basic information entitled, “The Truth About Metabolism”.   Basically, our metabolism keeps all of the functions in our body running. It helps us digest food, regulates our body temperature, and even our breathing.   This article, found in Science Daily provides insight into ways to improve your metabolism. While you can’t really change your basic metabolic rate (BMR), these articles both indicate that the part that you do have control over is how much you exercise and that can make a difference in your health.
