Probiotics for Seasonal Allergies
It’s spring, and with that, for many people, are seasonal allergies. There is good news, however, coming from recent research published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In a double-blind study it was discovered that participants with mild symptoms, who consumed a combination of lactobacilli and bifidobacteri, experienced some relief. Unfortunately, severe allergy sufferers were not tested. Other studies have shown this as well, and it is believed that the bacteria balance in the gut protects the immune system, which in turn helps prevent allergic flare-ups. While yogurt and other probiotics may not be the full cure for seasonal allergies, their benefit could be of help to those who suffer at this time of year.
