There have been numerous studies in recent years highlighting the positive health benefits of vitamin D. New research coming out of John Hopkins University, and published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, reveals a new dimension. In their analysis of health surveys and records of nearly 10,000 Americans over almost 20 years they identified a positive and direct relationship between exercise and vitamin D levels in the blood. This may provide evidence that exercise may boost vitamin D stores, and that together cardiovascular protection is enhanced. While it is too early to conclude on causal relationships, it does reveal the importance of both physical activity and the “sunshine vitamin.”
