Obesity More Dangerous to Your Heart as You Age

We all know that obesity has many health risks, but new research shows that its effect is much harder on the heart as one ages. According to the study published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, the combination of obesity and aging reduces blood flow through the tiny blood vessels that feed our heart muscle, increasing the risk for heart failure. This is likely because “aged fat” increases inflammation, which thickens the walls of these blood vessels. While we now know more about why obesity is dangerous as one ages, it also is a reminder of the need to keep your weight in check.
