Can Vitamin C Mimic Exercise?
Well maybe not completely, but perhaps to an extent. In a study that was presented at a conference of the American Physiological Society, researchers showed that taking vitamin C supplements daily can have similar cardiovascular benefits as regular exercise in overweight and obese adults. Specifically, they measured small vessel-constricting protein endothelin (ET)-1, a risk factor in heart disease. Exercise reduces activity, but 500mg vitamin C supplements reduced the ET-1 vessel constriction as much as walking. Of course, losing weight is vital, and most people should not stop exercising, but increasing your vitamin C consumption while getting to your ideal weight is a good idea.
