Resveratrol Increases Bone Density

Resveratrol, the much-touted compound found in red wine, has been shown to have a number of exciting health benefits. One of the more intriguing discoveries, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, has shown that it can help to increase bone density. The study targeted obese men with metabolic syndrome, because this condition causes inflammation which negative effects the bones. Participants who were given resveratrol supplements, which, they concluded, “positively affects bone, primarily by stimulating formation or mineralization.” More study needs to be done, but this research could be the basis for helping prevent osteoporosis.
