Nuts May Reduce Weight Gain

Despite the growing evidence of their health benefits, nuts often get a bad rap because of their high-fat content. Of course, excessive consumption of any fatty food can result in weight gain, there is growing evidence that a reasonable amount of healthy fats in the diet are not only nutritionally beneficial, but may help in weight regulation. A new study, published in the European Journal of Nutrition, bears this out. In an examination of hundreds of thousands of Europeans over five years, it was discovered that a “higher intake of nuts is associated with reduced weight gain and a lower risk of becoming overweight or obese.” This is in keeping with another study we recently highlighted, pointing out that walnuts help in appetite control. Note, all this does not say nuts by themselves will cause weight loss; rather a reduction in weight gain. Nonetheless, another good reason to enjoy a moderate amount of nuts in your diet!
