Hops may help those with metabolic syndrome
This research will be of particular interest to us here in the Yakima valley. Researchers from Oregon State University and Oregon Health & Science University have found in animal testing that certain flavonoids derived from hops may improve cognitive and other functions in people with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster conditions that can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The published study also showed that the hop compounds can improve glucose intolerance and insulin resistance in mice. While more research needs to be done for human application, this is very promising for both health and the hops industry. By the way, this does NOT mean that you should drink more beer!
